Residential breaks are organised regularly, on average four or five breaks each year for groups of up to 25 people. They provide a holiday for different groups ranging from adults only, through children and young people, to families and those who need a break simply to offer respite for carers.
Each holiday is 3 – 5 days in length, and takes place at various suitable locations which have full accessible facilities. All locations are thoroughly researched by SASBAH staff in advance. Every holiday includes a number of special attractions, such as entertainment, active pursuits, visits to places of interest, and a party. SASBAH qualified professionals accompany each trip, as well as a number of experienced volunteers.
The holidays offer a happy and fun-packed break for everyone who takes part, and often result in significant increase in social and personal confidence. New challenges abound, and this helps to build self-reliance. There are opportunities also for informal discussions with SASBAH staff in a relaxed environment about any additional support needs, and (especially on the adult and family breaks) the time to share experiences and just find out ‘what works’ is invaluable.
Some examples of places we have been to recently are:
Knowles Tooth Children’s Centre, Hurtspierpoint
Bond Hotel, Blackpool
Churchtown Farm Activity Centre, near Bodmin, Cornwall
The Queen Elizabeth Activity Centre, New Forest, Hampshire
