The Young People’s Committee plays an active role in developing ideas for future services and programmes. It is made up entirely of young people with disabilities aged 14-25, and elects its own Chair and Vice Chair. In addition to setting out ideas based in perceived needs of younger people, it manages or has major input into specific projects, such as the making of films about the organisation, and the production of an access booklet researched by members of the Committee.
As one indication of how important this group is, its young members were the origin of the concept for the Saspire Enterprise Centre, which is now well established as a work experience and training centre to help those with disabilities towards employment.
Membership of the Committee is open to any young service user, and the benefits of joining include increased confidence, team skills, and personal development.
